What is Quartz?
Quartz is a combination of natural quartz, minerals and technology to create a stone that is extraordinarily hard and non-porous. It is easily maintained and an ideal option for high traffic areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, commercial projects, or any areas due to vulnerable stresses of day-to-day use. Interested in Granite?
Granite is a natural stone formed from igneous rock, which is formed through volcanic material such a magma. Seismic activity gradually pushes through the magma towards the surface. As this happens, the magma slowly crystallizes as it cools, forming a variety of new formations with various colors. Granite is primarily composed of silica, quartz, feldspar, mica, and other materials. The distinct color and pattern variations depends largely on the various amounts of these minerals. Variegated patterns have been subjected to movement during its formation creating the swirls and veins of various colors. Whereas, a consistent grain texture has been under evenly consistent pressure. Offering a truly unique appearance, granite’s unique beauty, density and durability, makes it an ideal choice for the kitchen, bathroom or other highly utilized areas in the home or commercial application.
Interested in Limestone?
Limestone is from the sedimentary family of rock. It is created from the combination of deposited sediments of organic elements, most of them being of marine origin including, plants and animal organisms. These are collected on the bottom of ancient sea-beds along with a variety of minerals such as, calcite and dolomite which consolidated to form rock beds. These elements were bonded through millions of years of heat and pressure. It is common to find fossilized remains of these extinct organisms. Limestone also is a soft stone and is prone to stains. Regular sealing is recommended.
Interested in Marble?
Marble belongs to the metamorphic family of rock. It evolved when limestone has been structurally altered through heat, pressure, and mineral re-crystallization. Marble is mainly composed of calcite and /or dolomite. The range of color, shading, swirls, streaks, and veining are derived from calcite, quartz and a variety of other minerals. Marble describes a wide range of stones, (breccias, serpentine, travertine), which are capable of taking a polish. Marble is softer than granite; it is also more porous and therefore more prone to becoming stained and damaged if not taken care of properly. This stone must be kept sealed.
What About Slate?
Slate is from the metamorphic family of Rock. It is form from the decomposed sedimentary stone, organic matter and clay that has been harden from heat and pressure. Slate is stain resistant, heat resistant and anti-bacterial, which makes it an excellent natural stone counter top. This stone varies greatly in color and texture and does not require sealing. However, using a topical sealer enhances the stunning colors of this stone.
What About Soapstone?
Soapstone is a type of metamorphic rock. It is composed mainly of magnesium rich mineral talc and other minerals such as chlorite and carbonates. The smooth surface is created due to the high presence of talc. Soapstone is a dense stone which is acid resistant, naturally antimicrobial, along with a strong resistance to heat. Soapstone is often used in science labs for countertops because of these distinctive attributes. Even though soapstone is dense, it is not indestructible. This material is prone to chipping and scratching if you are not careful. This beautiful stone darkens with age. To speed up the darkening process, you can treat your countertop with mineral oil. This will help the countertop develop a dark patina that will highlight the natural aging process. Soapstone countertops require very little maintenance compared to other stone countertops. Soapstone colors are limited with various shades of gray, some with hints of green, black or blue.
